Mesozoic-Cenozoic Stratigraphy and Tectonic Development of the Southern Great Tarakan Basin, Northeast Borneo, Indonesia

We analyzed the tectonics and stratigraphy of Southern Great Tarakan Basin to determine its tectonic evolution during Mesozoic-Cenozoic Eras, basin geometry, potential hydrocarbon using integrated surface subsurface data. can be divided into three sub-basins, Berau, Muara, South Tarakan. They comprise deposits Jurassic Quaternary age, which assigned five mega sequences based on their lithological characteristics development. divide events four main phases; (1) contractional Jurassic-Cretaceous, (2) extensional Paleogene, (3) subsidence Early Neogene, (4) Late Neogene. The development strike-slip activity influenced geometric two sub-basins. NW-SE transpressional structures formed contraction phase caused most existing structure in Paleogene reactivated inverted, followed by basement uplift erosion. Consequently, system sub-basins Miocene-Pliocene. Moreover, horizons with exist southern part Greater Basin; plays Berau Sub-basin, Muara Sub-basin. Neogene Sub-basin control accumulation, migration, trapping mechanism, whereas these do not Muara; hence, this sub-basin is dominated stratigraphic traps.
